FULLERTON, Calif. -- Sophomore third baseman Nadia Taylor hammered a leadoff home run in the top of the seventh inning to break a scoreless tie and pace the No. 15 Texas Softball team past No. 7 Arizona State, 1-0, Thursday afternoon at the Judi Garman Classic. The victory improved the Longhorns to 21-4 on the year, while the Sun Devils fell to 24-3 overall.
Freshman righthander Blaire Luna (11-3) earned the win for the Longhorns, tossing a complete game one-hitter walking three and fanning seven. Arizona State starter Hillary Bach (11-1) was saddled with the loss after firing 6.0 innings, surrendering one run on five hits and striking out one.
Taylor did all the damage the Horns needed in the seventh, launching her fourth home run of the season in her third at-bat of the day. Senior shortstop Loryn Johnson and Taylor paced the UT offense on the afternoon with two hits each.
Texas returns to action on Thursday, March 18 when it continues play at the Judi Garman Classic against San Jose State. First pitch is slated for 5:45 p.m. Central.
