Five Longhorns advance at U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championships

DES MOINES, Iowa -- A strong group of former, current and future Longhorns continued to advance Friday afternoon at the 2010 U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
In the first round of the 400m juniors section, incoming freshman Briana Nelson and current Longhorns Stacey-Ann Smith and Alicia Peterson all advanced to the finals taking three of the possible eight spots. Nelson finished third in 53.19, while Smith and Peterson placed fifth (53.70) and eighth (54.22), respectively.
In the senior's 400m semifinal, Texas Ex Sanya Richards-Ross clocked a 51.82 to finish seventh overall. Richards-Ross, who is also up for an ESPY for Track and Field Athlete of the Year, is on track for her third-straight national title in the event and sixth overall.
After finishing 5-6 in the 100m semifinal, former Horns Bianca Knight and Alexandria Anderson went on to mirror that finish each clocking a 11.44, with Knight having the edge, 11.432 to 11.437.
Also advancing to the finals was incoming freshman Marielle Hall who clocked a 4:35.85 for seventh place in the first round of the 1,500m juniors section. Hall will race in the final at 5:25 p.m. CT on Saturday.
The USA Outdoor Championships continue on Saturday with former, current and future Horns competing in the 400m final (Richards-Ross), 400m juniors final (Nelson, Peterson, Smith), 200m first round (Anderson, Knight), 1,500m juniors final (Hall) and shot put final (Michelle Carter).
