Carter finishes second in shot put at U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championships

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Former Longhorn standout Michelle Carter posted a second-place finish in the women's shot put with a mark of 60-6.75 (18.46m) Saturday afternoon at the 2010 U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
In the juniors 400m final, sophomore Stacey-Ann Smith placed third in 53.17. With the top finisher being ineligible to compete at the World Junior Championships, Smith earned her first berth to the meet, which takes place July 19-25 in Moncton, Canada. Incoming freshman Briana Nelson placed fourth (53.32) while freshman Alicia Peterson finished eighth in 55.93.
Incoming freshman Marielle Hall ran a 4:28.32 in the juniors 1,500m for fourth place, also just missing a qualifying spot for the world championships.
The 2010 U.S Championships conclude Sunday with former Longhorns Alexandria Anderson and Bianca Knight running in the women's 200m.
