WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- Texas Women's Golf freshman Rebecca Lee-Bentham fired an opening-round 3-over-par 75 at the LPGA CN Canadian Women's Open on Thursday. She is currently tied for 81st place in the 156-player field at St. Charles Country Club.
A Team Canada Development Squad member, Lee-Bentham (Scarborough, Ontario, Canada) earned an exemption invite to the 72-hole event.
Beginning her round on the 10th tee, Lee-Bentham made four straight pars before carding her only birdie on the par-5 14th hole. She followed that with another par, but a bogey on 16 returned her to even par. She made additional pars on 17 and 18 to turn at even. Lee-Bentham's front nine included bogeys on four, seven and nine to result in the 3-over scorecard.
Lee-Bentham will again play with 15-year-old professional Alexis Thompson and 2010 LPGA rookie Amada Blumenherst in Friday's second round. The trio will begin play on the first hole at 12:55 p.m. Central.
Michelle Wie leads the CN Canadian Women's Open at 7-under 65. Sarah Kemp is three strokes behind at 4-under 68 and defending champion Suzann Pettersen is in third place with a 3-under 69.
Following play on Friday, the field will be cut to the top 70 players and ties.
