Durant paces USA Basketball to 89-74 victory against Lithuania in FIBA World Championship semifinals

ISTANBUL, Turkey -- Former University of Texas player and current NBA All-Star Kevin Durant posted a game-high 38 points to lead Team USA (8-0) to an 89-74 win against Lithuania on Saturday in the semifinals of the 2010 FIBA World Championship. Durant hit 14-of-25 field goals and 5-of-5 free throws while adding nine rebounds, two assists and one steal.
Durant's 38 points set an American single-game record at the FIBA World Championship. Carmelo Anthony held the previous mark with 35 points against Italy in 2006.
Team USA now advances to face Turkey in the gold medal contest on Sunday, Sept. 12. Tip time is set for 1:30 p.m. (Central), and the game will be televised live nationally by ESPN. The winner of the 2010 FIBA World Championship earns an automatic qualifying berth to the 2012 London Olympics.
Through the first eight contests, Durant leads the team in scoring (22.1 ppg), minutes played (26.9 mpg) and steals (12) and ranks second in rebounding (5.9 rpg). He has converted 50-of-91 (.549) field goals, including 14-of-32 (.438) from three-point range, and 25-of-27 (.926) free throws in the tournament.
