Senior cornerback Curtis Brown has been selected as the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for week three, the Big 12 has announced.
In the 24-14 win over Texas Tech on Saturday, Brown had two tackles, an interception and a pass breakup. He also returned three punts for 35 yards.
His third quarter interception lead to a field goal that broke a 14-14 tie and put Texas ahead to stay. With Texas Tech driving inside the Longhorns's 20-yard line, Brown read the play, stepped in front of the intended receiver, then ran 74 yards with the interception to the Tech 12-yard line. The ensuing field goal made the score 17-14 and tipped the momentum in the Longhorns' favor.
Brown led a Texas defense that posted a second half shutout and forced a three-and-out or a turnover on nine of Tech's 13 drives. The Longhorn defense held Texas Tech to 144 total yards of offense including minus-14 rushing yards. This was the Red Raiders' lowest offensive output since 1997.
Brown shares the honor with Nebraska DB, Eric Hagg.
