Twelve Longhorns named AP All-Big 12

AUSTIN, Texas - Twelve members of the Texas Longhorns football team were named to the Associated Press All-Big 12 team, the AP announced Thursday, December 8. Freshman RB Malcolm Brown was selected Offensive Newcomer of the Year. In addition, three Longhorns were selected to the first-team, four were selected to the second-team, and four were named honorable mention. The 2011 Associated Press All-Big 12 team was selected by a panel of 17 sports writers who regularly cover the league for newspapers throughout the league's five states.
Freshman RB Malcolm Brown was tabbed as the Offensive Newcomer of the Year by the AP after rushing for 707 yards and five touchdowns. Brown ranks fifth this season on the NCAA rushing list among freshmen (78.56 ypg) and eighth among all rushers in the Big 12.
Senior LB Emmanuel Acho, sophomore CB Carrington Byndom and junior DE Alex Okafor were selected as members of the AP All-Big 12 first-team defense. This season Okafor was also selected to the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) All-America team, and he and Acho were coaches' selections to the conference All-Big 12 first-team defense.
Selected to the AP All-Big 12 second-team defense were sophomore DE Jackson Jeffcoat and senior DT Kheeston Randall. Jeffcoat and Randall were also coaches' selections to the conference All-Big 12 second-team defense.
All were a vital part of a stout Texas Longhorns defense that ranks No. 1 in the Big 12 in total defense (315ypg), pass defense (211ypg) and rushing defense (103 ypg). Texas' rush defense (11th) and total defense (14th) both rank in the top 15 nationally.
Senior OG David Snow and senior PK/P Justin Tucker were selected to the AP All-Big 12 second-team offense.
Selected honorable mention AP All-Big 12 were senior RB Fozzy Whittaker (all-purpose), senior LB Keenan Robinson, junior S Kenny Vaccaro and freshman CB Quandre Diggs.
