TEXAS QUOTES
Head Coach Gail Goestenkors
Opening statement: We are happy to come away with a win. It certainly was not one of our best performances, but in this league at this point in the season, any win is a good win. We are happy to win the game—not in the style we would have preferred, but we will definitely take it. I thought that we started off flat, missing our jumpers, but I thought that in the second half that we came out with much greater energy and focus. That is the way that we need to play for 40 minutes heading into this road stretch.
On whether she was curious on how the team would rebound after Saturday: I was curious. We had a good practice yesterday and a good shootaround. I thought that we had energy. I thought that we were going to come out with the attack mindset, so I was kind of surprised that we came out so slowly. Overall, though, I am pleased, especially with the second half, but we were not where our expectations are for our level of play.
Senior F Kristen Nash
On coming out with more intensity in the second half: I think that we had more confidence in the second half. In the first half, I was missing a lot of passes and didn't feel as though I had my confidence. I think that we pulled together to halftime and got things turned around.
Junior G Yvonne Anderson
On G Chassidy Fussell: I think that she came in with the attitude that she wanted to contribute right away, and that is definitely what she is doing. She is very consistent on the offensive side of the floor. As a freshman, there are always things that you can work on, but she is really high on that offensive side already. She is a great freshman to play with.
NEBRASKA QUOTES
Head Coach Connie Yori
Opening statement: I thought Texas got good balance today. They got some inside scoring, but I think, obviously, the key for them was they turned us over so many times and it led to easy baskets. Their defensive pressure was a real key. In the half court, they did a good job of getting a lot of people involved, including their post players. You can't turn it over 25 times against anybody. We were chasing them down the court and I think they had 28 points off turnovers and you can't guard somebody when you're chasing them. That was a credit to their effort and what they did defensively to bother us.
On Texas doing anything different to start the second half: Just more of what they were trying to do in the first half, just getting some easy baskets because of our turnovers.
On Chassidy Fussell: We tried to recruit her. We sure did. She liked the weather here, I guess. I think she's really special. You just don't see very many kids be able to make as many shots as she makes in different ways. She's the kind of kid you watch and every time she shoots it you're thinking it's going to go in. As an opposing coach, that's not a very good feeling.
