AUSTIN, Texas - The No. 7 University of Texas Women's Track and Field Team will head to the Victor Lopez Bayou Classic this Friday-Saturday, March 25-26 in Houston.
LAST TIME OUT: UCF Black & Gold Challenge (March 19) ... Texas produced a pair of national-leaders at its 2011 outdoor season opener in freshmen Allison Peter and Danielle Dowie. Peter clocked a 23.22 in the 200m while Dowie posted a 57.33 in the 400m hurdles. In addition, Texas earned individual victories in the 4x100m relay (44.73), 1,500m (Marielle Hall, 4:35.98) and high jump (Alicia Peterson, 5-7).
LONGHORNS FINISH SECOND IN THE NATION ... The Longhorns capped off the 2011 indoor season with a second-place showing at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Texas, who finished 42nd at the indoor national meet a year ago, received second-place showings from freshman Shanay Briscoe and junior Mia Behm to boost the Horns to 38 points. A total of eight athletes earned 10 All-America honors.
BEHM SHINES IN 5K ... Junior Mia Behm posted Texas' highest finish in the 5,000m at the NCAA Indoor Championship since 1990 with her second-place time of 16:08.56. Behm, who entered the meet with the seventh-best time in the nation, became just the third Longhorn to place in the indoor event and her second-place effort ties for the best in program history.
HIGH JUMPERS CLEAR 6-0 ... Texas boasts a pair of high jumpers that have cleared 6-0 this season in freshman Shanay Briscoe and junior Victoria Lucas. Briscoe cleared 6-1.25 at the Arkansas Last Chance meet before clearing a personal-best height of 6-1.50 for second-place at the NCAA Indoor Meet. The freshman became the fifth Longhorn in NCAA history to finish in the top three. Lucas also jumped over six feet with her personal-best clearance of 6-0.25 for sixth place.
