Briscoe automatically qualifies for NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - University of Texas freshman Shanay Briscoe automatically qualified for the 2011 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships Friday afternoon after posting a height of 6-1.25 in the high jump at the Arkansas Last Chance Meet.

Briscoe, who entered the weekend tied for ninth on the descending order list, jumped up to a tie for third and earned a spot in this year's national meet. Briscoe has already had a successful freshman season after taking home the 2011 Big 12 Indoor high jump crown in Lincoln on Feb. 26.

Junior Victoria Lucas also moved up the descending order list after posting a personal-best height of 6-0, which places her tied for seventh overall. Lucas entered the weekend ranked 23rd overall.

In the sprints, junior Kendra Chambers posted a personal-best time of 53.23 to move into a tie for 14th in the NCAA with senior Chantel Malone and junior Stacey-Ann Smith.

The official list of qualifiers for the 2011 NCAA Indoor Championships will be announced by 7 p.m. on Monday, March 7. This year's national meet will take place March 11-12 in College Station, Texas.
