Men's tennis quintet finishes competition at Davis Cup

AUSTIN, Texas - Texas-Exes Dimitar Kutrovsky, Olivier Sajous, Luis Diaz Barriga, Miguel Reyes Varela and Michael Venus wrapped up competition for their respective home nations this weekend (March 4-6) in the Davis Cup.
Kutrovsky scored the lone point for Bulgaria in his home nation's 4-1 defeat to Belarus. Kutrovsky defeated Belarus' Siarhei Betau by a 7-5, 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (2) count before falling by a 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, 6-4 count to Uladzimir Ignatik. Kutrovsky finished his Texas career last spring as the school's winningest player with 230 combined singles and doubles wins.
Sajous scored both points in his native Haiti's 3-2 defeat to Venezuela. He notched a 7-6 (2), 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 victory over Venezuela's Luis David Martinez. He joined Joel Allen in doubles and suffered a 6-7 (3), 3-6, 7-6 (0), 6-2, 6-2 defeat to Piero Luisi and Roberto Maytin. Sajous went on to add a 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-4, 0-6, 6-4 win over Luisi. Sajous played one season at Texas and clinched UT's 4-2 victory over Georgia in the quarterfinals of the 2009 NCAA Championships.
Diaz Barriga and Reyes Varela suffered a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 doubles defeat to Canada's Vasek Pospisil and Milos Raonic. Canada went on to defeat Mexico, 4-1. Diaz Barriga and Reyes Varela were selected to the 2008 NCAA All-Tournament Team in doubles after helping the Horns reach the NCAA title match. The pair helped Texas reach the NCAA semifinals in 2006, and Reyes Varela helped send Texas to the NCAA semifinals once again in 2009.
Venus notched a 6-3, 6-0 singles win over Vaja Uzakov and suffered a 7-6 (5), 6-3, 6-4 defeat alongside Marcus Daniell to Uzbekistan's Farrukh Dustov and Denis Istomin. Uzbekistan went on to defeat New Zealand, 3-2. Venus helped the 2006 Texas team to the Big 12 tournament title and a spot in the NCAA semifinals.
