TEMPE, Ariz. -- Texas sophomore Madison Pressel (69-70) holds a share of the lead in the PING/ASU Invitational at 5-under-par 139 through 36 holes at Karsten G.C. Pressel followed up her first-round 69 with a 2-under 70 on Saturday to improve from a tie for second place to the top of the leaderboard. The Longhorns (286-287) remain in third place at 3-under 573 and are eight strokes behind co-leaders UCLA (276-289=565, -11) and Southern California (281-284).
Pressel's second round scorecard included five birdies and three bogeys. Throughout the two rounds, she has recorded 12 subpar holes. A win for Pressel would mark the first of her collegiate career.
Junior Nicole Vandermade (72-70) climbed from a tie for 18th place after Friday's first round to a tie for sixth at 2-under 140. Vandermade collected birdies on the fifth, ninth, 10th and 14th holes to offset a double bogey on the fourth hole.
Freshman Rebecca Lee-Bentham (71-74) slipped to 1-over 145 and a tie for 16th place with a second-round 75 (+3). Junior Megan Rosenfeld (74-73=147) is tied for 23rd place at 3-over, and sophomore Haley Stephens (75-76) rounds out the quintet at 7-over 151 and tied for 46th place.
The Longhorns will tee off in Sunday's final round at 10:50 a.m. Central on the first hole alongside the Bruins and Trojans.
