Louisiana-Lafayette postgame quotes
Co-Head Coach Stefini Lotief
On Ashley Brignac's pitching: It was our game plan. That's what the coaches put in front of her and she tried to execute (the pitches). Ashley's an outstanding pitcher. She's been outstanding all year long. I believe she's a team player, and she tried to execute the game plan the best she could.
On Houston's Amanda Crabtree's pitching: I think she pitched a good game. I saw a lot of movement. I saw her throw a back-door curve on the inside half. I saw her get in trouble later in the game. Early on, I think the momentum shifted in that big five-run inning and they fed off of it.
Junior P Ashley Brignac
On the loss: Our team is going to fight back from this. We've faced adversity throughout the year. This is just another one of those. Our focus is now on tomorrow's game. We're going to learn from today and do what we've got to do.
On Houston's tendency to swing at first pitches: We saw that was their game plan early on. Being an athlete, you have to recognize adjustments from the other team. That's how you play the game.
Sophomore SS Nerissa Myers
On the game: I think we were pretty positive throughout the game. We knew they were going to come out swinging, so we had to punch. We were never going to give up.
On facing Houston's pitching: I felt that Crabtree went with her game plan. We prepared for it all week and some of us struggled. If we have to face her again I'm sure adjustments will be made.
Houston postgame quotes
Head Coach Kyla Holas
Opening statement: We are obviously very excited about the outcome of today, but we know that this is just the first game of a very long weekend with a lot of work still left to do.
On the win: I think anytime in the postseason when you can put that many runs on the board early you're definitely going to be able to control the momentum. We worked really hard all week on trying to get that timely hit. We did a great job
Senior OF Katy Beth Sherman
On her triple: I'll give a little credit to coach here. She pulled me in the huddle before and said, "Read your defense." I came in and I just knew that I was going to hit it hard.
Sophomore IF Holly Anderson
On the impressive team hitting: Coming out of the first inning we knew what to expect. By the third inning we had already seen their pitcher one time around and knew what to expect and how to react.
Senior P Amanda Crabtree
On her pitching performance: We've been working all week. We know their hitters and their tendencies. I knew what I was going to face coming into the game. I felt very prepared. I knew what spots to hit against which batters and that really helped me find success early on.
On pitching with a big lead: We knew that they were an offensive team. This is an offensive regional. As a pitcher, any time that your team can put up that many runs it definitely gives you some breathing room. One mistake isn't going to kill you.
