Austin -- Texas sophomore WR Greg Timmons has elected to transfer, he confirmed Monday. Timmons, who has been given an unconditional release from his scholarship by UT, will depart the program after two seasons, but has not yet determined where he will transfer.
"Texas is a good place and all I knew growing up was Texas, so leaving that family hurts, but at the same time, I think it's best for me to get a fresh start with new opportunities," Timmons said. "I appreciate all the time I've had with my teammates and coaches, and I'm still going to be rooting for them every time they play. I'll always love Texas."
Timmons appeared in six games as a redshirt freshman in 2010, including one at wide receiver and five on special teams.
A native of Aldine, Texas, Timmons played in the 2009 U.S. Army All-American Game and was a three-time all-district performer at Eisenhower High School. He caught 85 passes for 1,752 yards and 14 TDs in his final three seasons there.
"We appreciate everything Greg has done for the program," head coach Mack Brown said. "We wish him nothing but the best of luck as he moves forward and hope he has great success in the future."
