Former Longhorn assistant Ron Toman passes away

PHOENIX - Ron Toman, who served as the Texas Longhorns offensive coordinator for the football seasons of 1981 through 1985, passed away on June 2. He was 77.
Toman helped lead the Longhorns to a No. 2 national ranking and a Cotton Bowl victory over Alabama during the 1981 season. During his tenure on Fred Akers' UT staff, the Longhorns went to five bowl games and won the Southwest Conference championship and finished the regular season unbeaten in 1983.
A graduate of the University of Missouri, Toman came to Texas from Notre Dame, where he had tutored Irish quarterback Joe Montana during his playing days there.
A private family service was held to remember him.
