Diggs named to FWAA 2011 Freshman All-America Team

AUSTIN, Texas - Texas Longhorns true freshman cornerback Quandre Diggs has been selected to the 11th annual Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) Freshman All-America Team, the association has announced.
Diggs played in all 13 games with 11 starts on the season. He had a team-high four interceptions and two caused fumbles to go with 51 tackles (33 solo), four tackles for loss and 15 pass breakups. He also returned 19 kickoffs for 371 yards and nine punts for 181 yards.
For the 2011 season, Diggs was tabbed the Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year, was selected as a CBSSports.com Freshman All-American and was named All-Big 12 second team.
In the 2011 Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl, Diggs intercepted a pass, made three tackles and returned two kickoffs for 47 yards.
Diggs registered one interception, four tackles, three pass breakups and a career-high 180 all-purpose yards with two punt returns for 95 yards and four kickoff returns for 85 yards at Texas A&M to earn College Football Performance Awards honorable mention Punt Returner of the Week. He broke up three passes and had a season-high six tackles against Texas Tech while also returning two punts for 32 yards. He recorded four tackles, one tackle for loss, one interception and one pass breakup in a shutout performance against Kansas as the defense allowed only 46 yards of total offense and negative two rushing yards. His effort against the Jayhawks earned him honorable mention for the CFPA Defensive Back of the Week. At Missouri, Diggs finished with eight tackles including seven solo stops and had six kickoff returns for 121 yards against Oklahoma to go with three tackles and one pass breakup. He tallied four tackles at Iowa State to go with a caused fumble on special teams and one tackle for loss. He forced two turnovers against BYU with his first career interception and caused a fumble to go with two pass breakups. He made five solo stops at Baylor and posted three tackles and one pass breakup against Oklahoma State. He finished with two tackles, one tackle for loss and one pass breakup to go with three punt returns for 45 yards and one 12-yard kickoff return versus Kansas State as the defense held the Wildcats to 121 total yards of offense.
Diggs becomes the ninth Longhorn chosen in the eleven seasons that the team has been selected. Past Longhorns named to the Freshman All-American Team are: S Earl Thomas (2008), QB Colt McCoy (2006), DE Brian Orakpo (2005), DT Frank Okam (2004), OT Justin Blalock (2003), DT Rodrique Wright (2002), LB Derrick Johnson (2001) and K Dusty Mangum (2001).
The team and coach are selected by an 11-person panel of nationally-prominent writers led by Mike Griffith of the Knoxville News Sentinel. Both true freshmen (14 players) and redshirt freshmen (12 players) were considered for the team.
