TEXAS POST-GAME QUOTES
HEAD COACH Gail Goestenkors
Opening Statement: I am really happy to come away with a win. We knew it was going to be a great battle. They are an exceptional team, they spread you out with their three-point shooting and they fight. It is hard when you do not have any wins but you are very capable and we only had one win, so we knew this would be a war. I am proud of the team. We stayed resilienteven when they were hitting big threes against us and shots were not falling for us. In this conference that is what you have to do, you have to find a way to win.
On the final play: I was really proud of Yvonne. I said in the locker room, "Their defense was cranked up in the second half." Their defense was very good and we had broken plays. We were running plays but they were defending them very well. I thought Yvonne did a great job makingpoints with a broken play. The last two points that we had were from brokenplays, Yvonne passed it to AG. She attacked and she made it happen. That iswhat you have to do, you have to attack.
SENIOR GUARD Yvonne Anderson
On the final play: The play was set up to get mini options in the zone, I just happened to get the ball at the end and I knew it was time to attack. Coach told me at half- time to start attacking, I think in the second half that her words really kicked in second half. They played harder, we started to play harder- it made the game more interesting.
SOPHOMORE GUARD Chelsea Bass
On the aiming to be the spark of the team: I try to come in every game off the bench to give the team a spark and bring high energy even if our shots are not falling. I embrace that role. I try to do the best I can to be the spark of the team.
SOPHOMORE GUARD Chassidy Fussell
On the game winning shot: Before every game we do assist to each other in which both of us have to make six in a roll. I thought she would give me an assist at the end, but she didn't. It was her moment and I am excited for her.
IOWA STATE QUOTES
HEAD COACH BILL FENNELLY
Opening Statement: Obviously, this was a hard defeat for our kids. I thought we played really hard. The two things that continue to plague our team are we can't make shots and we have some really bad turnovers at really bad times. To Texas' credit, every time we did that they made us pay. Chassidy (Fussell) hit some big shots, and Yvonne Anderson really dictated the flow of the game. You have to make baskets in this game, and you can't commit silly turnovers. To Texas' credit, like I said, they took advantage of it and won the game.
On the last play for Texas: To be honest with you, I thought we were in good shape really. Chassidy (Fussell) had the ball way away from the basket as the clock was running down. They threw the ball to Yvonne (Anderson), and she made a good play gapping and hitting the runner. What we tried to do was the only person we wanted to guard was Chassidy and to make them make a perimeter shot. Yvonne did a great job of gutting our defense a lot. She hit a tough shot and that's what good players do at big times.
SOPHOMORE F HALLIE CHRISTOFFERSON
On if Texas' last play of the game took Iowa State by surprise: You always have to be ready. Coach [Bill Fennelly] talks about it all the time, it comes down to one play. That one play can be at any time and this just happened to be that play. I know now that we always have to play hard every single play.
