NEWPORT BEACH, Calif - Texas Longhorns defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat has been named the Lott IMPACT Player of the Week, the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation announced Monday.
Jeffcoat notched a team-high four tackles for loss, one sack, one forced fumble, and seven total tackles in Texas's 41-36 road victory over Oklahoma State on Saturday. He helped the Longhorn defense hold the nation's top-ranked Oklahoma State scoring offense to 26 points below its scoring average.
Jeffcoat has played in 24 career games with 17 starts, and currently leads the team in solo tackles (15), tackles for loss (8.0 for 34 total yards), and forced fumbles (two). The junior started all four games this season to help the Horns amass a 4-0 record.
The third-year defensive end nabbed 2011 second-team All-Big 12 selections (Coaches, AP, Kansas City Star, San Antonio Express-News, For Worth Star-Telegram) . Jeffcoat played in all 13 games, and racked up 71 tackles, 21 tackles for losses, eight sacks, nine pressures, and three pass breakups. He ended the season fifth in the Big 12 in sacks and tied for third in tackles for loss.
Jeffcoat has already been named to the 2012 Nagurski Trophy, Bednarik Award, Lombardi Award, and CFPA Defensive Lineman of the Year Trophy watch lists. He was also named 2012 preseason first-team All-Big 12 by Phil Steele, Athlon, and Lindy's magazines.
Off the field, Jeffcoat is active in Texas' community service program, including visits to the Dell Children's Medical Center on Fridays prior to home games. The defensive end also participated in the Hart Global Leaders Forum with former Great Britain Prime Minister Tony Blair, and has served as a speaker during drug free week at various schools in the area and a volunteer at the Dallas Food Bank.
In recognition of Jeffcoat's performance, the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation, sponsors of the Lott IMPACT Trophy, will make a $1,000 donation to the general scholarship fund at Texas. Texas has a strong relationship with the Lott IMPACT Trophy with four former Longhorns being recognized as finalists for the award - Derrick Johnson, Brian Orakpo, Sam Acho and Emmanuel Acho.
