AUSTIN, Texas - For the fourth consecutive season, the Texas men's cross country team improved on their placing in the Big 12 Cross Country Championships after finishing second on Saturday at Jimmy Clay Golf Course.
Since coach John Hayes arrival in 2009, UT has improved one spot in the conference meet each season - fifth in 2009, fourth in 2010, third in 2011 and second in 2012. Saturday's finish tied a program-best for the fifth time, also finishing second in 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2006.
The Longhorns were led by a pack of four All-Big 12 runners - sixth-place Ryan Dohner, ninth-place Craig Lutz, 10th-place Rory Tunningley and 13th-place Patrick McGregor. The top 15 runners qualify for all-conference recognition.
It is the fourth year that Texas has had four harriers named All-Big 12 and the most since 2007.
With a 24:02.6 8K time, Dohner paced the Longhorns in competition for the first time of his career. Lutz earned All-Big 12 honors for the second consecutive season after clocking in at 24:07.2. McGregor improved on a 34th-place finish in 2011 to earn All-Big 12 recognition for the first time.
Oklahoma State won the men's title for the fifth consecutive season and Texas Tech junior college transfer Kennedy Kithuka won the individual race by one minute and six seconds.
