TEAM NOTES
- The Series: West Virginia leads, 2-0. The only other meeting was a 7-6 win for the Mountaineers in 1956 in Austin.
- Largest Crowd: Tonight's game was a sellout and marked the largest crowd ever (101,851) in Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. The previous high was 101,624 vs. Rice in 2011. There have been 20 crowds in excess of 100,000 in the history of the stadium.
- Captains: Former Longhorn Vince Young served as tonight's honorary captain. He was joined at the coin toss by game captains Marquise Goodwin (offense), Carrington Byndom (defense) and D.J. Monroe (special teams).
- Block that kick: The Longhorns blocked two kicks this evening (one punt and one field goal) and now have five on the season. Texas has blocked the second most kicks in the nation (59) since the start of the 2002 season. Fresno State is first on the list with 65 (entering this weekend).
- Scoring on Defense: The Longhorns scored on defense for the second time this season when Jackson Jeffcoat recovered a Geno Smith fumble in the end zone in the second quarter. It marked the first fumble for a touchdown since Keenan Robinson went 10 yards vs. Rice (9/4/10 - span of 27 games). Texas has scored 83 non-offensive touchdowns since 1999 which is tied for second most in the FBS with Kansas State. Virginia Tech has scored 84 times over that time span.
- Points off Turnovers: Texas scored off a forced turnover, scoring a touchdown on a fumble recovered by Jackson Jeffcoat. The Longhorns have outscored the opposition 56-3 this season off turnovers. The Mountaineers did not score on the Longhorns' lone fumble of the night. The Horns have forced 10 turnovers but committed just three.
- Third-down Efficiency: WVU came into the game first in the FBS in offensive third-down conversions (28 of 46/61 percent) and were 3-of-12 (23 percent) this evening. Texas entered the game fourth in the FBS in offensive third-down conversions (35 of 60/58 percent) and converted 8-of-14 third downs tonight.
- Top-25 Opponents: Texas is now 28-16 (.636) in its last 44 games vs. top 25 opponents. Eight of those losses have come to top 10 ranked teams. In Mack Brown's 15 years in Austin, UT is 35-27 (.574) vs. top 25 opponents.
- Big Plays: The Horns set up two of their touchdowns with big plays. The first touchdown was set up by a 46-yd pass from David Ash to Daje Johnson. Johnathan Gray had a career-long 49-yard run on the second TD drive. The Horns have 11 offensive plays of more than 40 yards this season.
- Sack Attack: The Longhorns had four sacks tonight and WVU attempted 35 passes. WVU had allowed just four sacks on 181 attempts entering the game.
- Turnover margin: This is just the fifth loss for Texas during the Mack Brown era when owning an advantage in the turnover margin. On Saturday, WVU committed two turnovers to Texas' one. The Longhorns had won their last 58 games when winning the turnover battle, dating back to 2002.
- Big 12 Success at Home: Texas is 41-10 (.803) at Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium against league opponents during the Mack Brown era. The 41 home victories are the second-most by any team in the conference over the last 14 years.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES

David Ash, QB
- Started his 11th career game and now holds a 7-4 record as a starter.
- Completed 22-of-29 passing attempts (76 percent) for 269 yards and one touchdown. He has completed more than 70 percent of his passes in all five games this season.

Joe Bergeron, RB
- Set a career high of four rushing touchdowns to account for all but one of UT's five offensive touchdowns. In the first half alone, Bergeron tied his previous career high of three rushing touchdowns against Texas Tech in 2011. His four rushing touchdowns rank tied for sixth on the Texas single-game list. He is one of nine players in school history to post four or more rushing TDs in a game and first since Vince Young had four vs. Michigan in the 2005 Rose Bowl.
- Bergeron now has a team-high nine rushing TDs on the season.

Johnathan Gray, RB
- Led the Horns rushing attack with a career-high 87 yards on 14 carries. He had a career-long 49-yard run in the first half.
- His 49-yard rush in the second quarter put the ball on the WVU one yard-line to setup a one-yard TD rush for Joe Bergeron. His previous high was a 19-yard rush against Ole Miss.

Jackson Jeffcoat, DE
- Recorded his first-career touchdown when he recovered a Geno Smith fumble in the end zone. His TD tied the game at 21 in the second quarter.

Daje Johnson, RB
- Posted a 46-yard reception in the first quarter. Averaging 17.2 yards on 10 catches this season.

Alex Okafor, DE
- Forced WVU quarterback Geno Smith to fumble twice - Okafor's fifth and sixth forced fumbles of his career. The first on Saturday was caused in the WVU end zone, recovered by Jackson Jeffcoat for a touchdown. The second was in the fourth quarter, recovered by Chris Whaley at the WVU 12-yard line. Okafor also forced two fumbles last season vs. Kansas.
- Matched a career high with two sacks. He had two earlier this season vs. Ole Miss and last year vs. Texas Tech.

- He also blocked a WVU field goal to maintain a 7-7 tie in the first quarter.

Mykkele Thompson, S
- Earned his first career start at safety. He has played in 18 career games. Credited with nine tackles and a PBU.
