TEAM NOTES
- The Series: Texas and Texas Tech met for the 62nd time in series history today. UT has won the last four and 12 of the last 14 matchups against Texas Tech. The Longhorns hold a 47-15 (.758) lead in the all-time series that began in 1928. They are 17-10 against the Red Raiders in Lubbock, 29-5 in Austin, and 39-14 against them in all-time conference matchups (13-4 Big 12/26-10 SWC). Mack Brown is 12-3 against Tech, with all three losses coming in Lubbock (1998, 2002, 2008).
- Record Crowd: There was a Jones AT&T Stadium-record crowd of 60,879 in attendance today.
- Big 12 Road Success: Texas is 4-0 on the road this season and has won 38 of its last 45 true Big 12 road games (excluding neutral-site games).
- Against Ranked Teams: Texas improved to 2-2 in games vs. top 25 teams this season. The Horns defeated Oklahoma State (No. 22 in USA Today Coaches poll) and lost to West Virginia and Oklahoma, a pair of top 10 teams.
- Big Plays: Texas entered the game with 15 offensive plays of 40 yards or more, with eight resulting in touchdowns. After eight games last season, the Horns had 10 plays over 40 yards with three resulting in a TD. Seven different Horns have a 40-plus yard offensive play this season. Mike Davis and David Ash connected on a 54-yard completion in the first quarter, which set up Texas' second touchdown, and then a 75-yard TD in the second quarter. Davis has a team-high six plays (all receptions) of 40 or more yards.
- Red-Zone Defense: Texas Tech scored five of six times in the red zone, but Texas held them to four field-goal attempts. The Red Raiders hit three of those FG attempts and one was blocked by Carrington Byndom.
- Key Offensive Drive of the Game: After gaining 32 yards (on 14 plays) in their first three drives of the second half, the Longhorn offense responded by going 59 yards on eight plays, including a 25-yard TD pass from Davis Ash to Mike Davis, to increase the lead to 31-22, to increase the lead to 31-22. The Horns then salted away the final 5:15 of the game with a nine-play, 43-yard drive, all on the ground.
- Block that Kick: Carrington Byndom blocked Texas Tech's fourth-quarter field-goal attempt which would have brought the Red Raiders within one score. It was Byndom's second block of the season (punt block vs. WVU). Texas has blocked seven kicks this season (three punts; two extra points; two field goals). The Horns entered today's game tied for first in the FBS in blocked kicks with Ohio State and Rutgers (six).
- Out of Action: DT Ashton Dorsey (right calf), OT Kennedy Estelle (left shoulder), DB Sheroid Evans (right lower leg), LB Jordan Hicks (left hip), WR Cayleb Jones (left knee) and TE M.J. McFarland (concussion) did not play due to injury. RB Malcolm Brown(left ankle) was listed as probable on the pregame injury report and was held out as a precaution.

Brown is now 234-115-1 all-time as a head coach. He moved into a tie for 11th with Bo Schembechler on the NCAA FBS career wins list.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
David Ash, QB
- Made his 15th-career start ... has a 10-5 record as a starter with wins in eight of his last 10.
- Went over 3,000 passing yards (3,069) by completing 11 of 19 passes for 264 yards and three TDs. He threw three or more TD passes for the third time this season.
Joe Bergeron, RB
- Scored his 16th rushing touchdown of the season in the first quarter. He remains in seventh on the school's single-season rushing TD list and needs two more to tie Jamaal Charles (2007) and Earl Campbell (1977) for fifth place. Ricky Williams had a school-record 27 in 1998.
- All of his 21 career rushing touchdowns have occurred in his last 13 games.
Mike Davis, WR
- Had four receptions for a career-high 165 receiving yards. He vaulted from 10th to ninth to on the Texas career receiving yards chart (1,811). He passed Wane McGarity (1995-98/1,687).
- He had his sixth-career 100-yard receiving game (three this season).
- Set a career high with two TD receptions. He had one TD catch in seven different games.
Steve Edmond, LB
- Credited with a game-high eight tackles. He had posted double-digit tackles in three of the previous four games.
Johnathan Gray, RB
- Made his second-career start.
- Had a career-high 20 carries for 106 yards and two catches for 41 yards. He had a career-high 147 all-purpose yards.
- Became just the 10th Texas freshman to have at least 100 rushing yards in two games (111 vs. Kansas last week). Malcolm Brown had three last season and Joe Bergeron two.
- He is not the first member of the family to rush for more than 100 yards in this series. His father, James, was an All-America running back for Texas Tech in the late 1980s. He led the Southwest Conference and was fifth in the nation in rushing as a senior in 1989. James Gray had 60 yards on 17 carries vs. Texas as a freshman in 1986 and posted 117 yards on 26 carries vs. the Longhorns in 1989.
Alex Okafor, DE
- Entered the game second in the Big 12 in sacks (0.9 per game) and posted one for a loss of 8 yards.
Jaxon Shipley, WR
- Caught his fifth TD pass (second on the team), a 6-yarder from David Ash on the opening drive of the game.
