DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Nneka Enemkpali scored a career-high 25 points and Chassidy Fussell scored 23 to lead Texas over No. 14 St. John's 70-60 Friday in the teams' season opener.
Enemkpali, a sophomore forward, also had 12 rebounds for her first career double-double. The Longhorns, who were 18-14 last season and lost in the first round of the NCAA tournament, outrebounded the Red Storm 47-26 in the WBI Tip Off Invitational game.
Fussell, who was second in the nation in free-throw shooting last year (90.5 percent) extended her streak of free throws made to 30 before missing her seventh attempt. Five of Fussell's free throws came in the final 5:31when Texas closed with a 12-2 run.
Briana Brown scored 17 points with 10 rebounds and Eugeneia McPherson had 14 points for the Red Storm, which led 36-33 at the half. St. John's went 24-10 last season and reached the NCAA Sweet 16.

-Texas carried a 47-26 rebounding advantage in the game, including leading 30-10 in the first half.

Nneka Enemkpali
-Recorded a career high in points (25) and earned her first career double-double with 12 rebounds.

Chassidy Fussell
-Recorded her 26th career 20-plus point game, finishing with 23 points to go with six rebounds.
-Extended her made free throws streak to 30-straight (dating back to Feb. 8, 2012) before missing on attempt at 31.
Empress Davenport
-Scored first points of her Texas career at 18:57 mark of the first half.
-Started for the Longhorns in her freshman debut, scoring 10 points with four steals in 20 minutes.
Celina Rodrigo
-Scored first points of Longhorn career on a layup at the 5:14 mark of the first half
-Started for the Longhorns in her freshman debut, logging two points, five rebounds and four assists in 32 minutes.
Brady Sanders
-Scored first points in a Texas uniform at 12:40 mark of the second half.
