TEXAS COACHES
Head Coach Mack Brown
Opening Statement: I want to congratulate Kansas State on being Big 12 Champions. They have a really good football team and you understand that after watching them play. Collin Klein did some great things in the fourth quarter and was physical, and he also made the perfect throw that really put us in trouble. Proud of the effort our guys put out. I thought they did exactly what we asked them to do. We will leave tomorrow, learn where we are playing our bowl game, and we will regroup and get ready to work.
On the close game through three quarters: The third quarter was still tight. We moved the ball and did some good things in the fourth quarter but we had two turnovers and a missed field goal and you cannot do those things. They played really well and we were matched with them in the third quarter. We had to keep matching them, and we did not do that.
On Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein: Collin Klein is a great player - not a good player. I have watched him for three or four years now and he is so big and unselfish. I think that is what makes him so special. He is also hard to tackle, is accurate with his passing game, and that is what makes him such a great player. I know he will be in New York and there is always really good players [invited].
On Kansas State head coach Bill Snyder: Bill is unbelievable. I have said many times that I think what he has done here is the best in the country from start to finish. The crowd is also unbelievable - those fifty thousand were there an hour, hour and a half before the game and never sit down. You have to give K-State a lot of credit, they have built a wonderful place here and it is a tough place to play at.
TEXAS PLAYERS
QB Case McCoy
On where the game got away from them: I do not think it ever got away. It came down to turnovers. I guess we turned it over three times and gave up 21 points off of them. That is something that happened tonight. We have been preaching about it. It cannot happen.
On responsibilities leading up to the bowl game: My class, the upcoming seniors, have to step up. Send out these guys [seniors] right. They have done everything right for the program. There are so many guys I can name off of the top of my head, and it is time for us to repay them with a good bowl game.
On what was the difference between the first half and second half: They got a little bit of momentum and got the crowd back into the game. That is just a part of college football. As long as we fight it does not matter what bowl game we go to. We will have a great shot at winning.
RB Malcolm Brown
On Case McCoy's performance: He led very well. We knew what Case could do coming into this game. Coach [Brwon] started him for a reason, so we are very proud of Case.
On getting back out on the field: It was great to get back out on the field with my team. It has been a while. It is not about me or anything. We just wanted to come out here and just play our best. Nothing was solely just on me. We did not come out with a "W", so it was disappointing.
OG Mason Walters
On the fourth quarter: We were sitting there and K-State had just taken the lead and we had been going back and forth, back and forth. Our offense had a drive that stalled out. They played good defense on the drive. We just could not get anything going. They proved they were a good team down the stretch.
On halftime adjustments: We have seen the film and we knew coming in here, K-State is a really good team. They made some adjustments at halftime, just like we tried to do to take advantage of the things they were doing. We went back out and really it comes down to execution. In the fourth quarter you have to do that, and we just did not do that.
S Kenny Vaccaro
On the second half: We just had some breakdowns on defense, and the goal of this game was to do your job. Like I told the team, if you do not do your job, K-State capitalizes on the those plays.
On having faith that the team will improve next year: Of course I have faith in them, and first of all I would like to say sorry because us as seniors did not get them back to where Texas has been. There is a bunch of younger guys and a larger senior class and the team will have more help out there.
S Adrian Phillips
On the third quarter: Basically, they just out-executed us. They did what they were supposed to do, and we did not come out to do our job after halftime. That is why we got hurt.
On Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein: I do not think it came down to him being stronger than us. It came down to us doing our job. We each have a job, and we came out in the second half and did not do our job.
