BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Junior Ryan Dohner and senior Joe Stilin took part in their first indoor competition of the season Friday evening at the Hoosier Open and posted a pair of impressive performances in a small, but talented field.
Dohner and Stilin finished third and fourth, respectively, in the eight-man, 5,000-meter invitational race.
Dohner, who is coming off an All-America performance at last month's NCAA Cross Country Championships, crossed the finish line in a personal-best 13:52.85, which is the fourth-fastest time in school history.
Stilin, a transfer from Princeton, was just seconds behind Dohner, clocking a time of 13:59.23. That mark places Stilin, who is competing for the Horns during the indoor season, seventh on the Texas all-time performers list.
Ryan Hill of NC State won the race in a time of 13:43.52. Zachary Mayhew of Indiana barely edged Dohner for second in 13:51.79.
Dohner and Stilin are the only Longhorns competing at the two-day event at Indiana University that continues into Saturday.
Texas officially opens the indoor season on Jan. 12 when it heads to Fayetteville, Ark., for a dual meet with the Arkansas Razorbacks.
