Soccer signs seven to National Letters of Intent for the 2012-13 season

AUSTIN, Texas - The University of Texas Soccer Team received seven commitments for the 2012-13 season head coach Angela Kelly announced on Wednesday. The group features a pair of players in the Top Drawer Soccer Top 100 and the ESPNHS Top 150.
The incoming class includes midfielder Chantale Campbell (London, Ontario), defender/midfielder Emilie Campbell (London, Ontario), midfielder Lindsey Meyer (Coppell, Texas), defender Alison Schmalz (Schaumburg, Ill.), forward Kelsey Shimmick (Grapevine, Texas), forward Sydney Shutter (Austin, Texas); goalkeeper Abby Smith (Dallas, Texas).
"The much anticipated 'signing day' has finally arrived and we are so excited to welcome them into the Longhorn Family," Kelly said. "Each member of this 2012 class embodies the pride, passion and commitment necessary to winning championships here at Texas. Each young lady adds tremendous talent and unique qualities, that I am certain will contribute to the success of this program. I am honored and so incredibly excited to challenge and develop each of them to become the best student-athletes that they can be."
Smith is ranked fifth on the ESPNHS Top 150 list and Top Drawer Soccer ranks her 13th in the country and second in the state of Texas. Shimmick is ranked 43rd on the ESPNHS Top 150 list and Top Drawer Soccer ranks her 41st in the country and seventh in the state of Texas.
Chantale Campbell is a three-year member of the Canadian National Team training centre (2010-12). She was a member of the U17 Canadian Women's National Team roster in 2010. She helped lead the Canadians squad to a gold medal at the 2010 U17 CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying Tournament in Costa Rica, scoring the game-winning goal of a penalty shootout to eliminiate the United States and send Canada to the U17 World Cup. She later played in the U17 World Cup in Trinidad & Tobago. For her career, she has played in 17 international matches. As a member of the Ontario Provincial Team, she earned one gold medal (U16 in 2010) and two silver medals (U14 in 2006 and U16 in 2009). She played club soccer for the London City Flash where she led the team to a U14 Canadian National Championship and U14 Ontario Cup title in 2006, scored the championship-winning goal in the U15 Ontario Cup in 2007. In 2008, she led the North London Flash to the U16 Ontario Cup finals. Campbell helped Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School win the 2011 Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association's soccer tournament gold medal.
Emilie Campbell is a three-year member of the Canadian National Team training centre (2010-12). She was a member of the U17 Canadian Women's National Team roster in 2010. As a member of the Ontario Provincial Team, she earned two gold medals (U16 in 2008 and 2010) and two silver medals (U14 in 2006 and U16 in 2009). She played club soccer for the London City Flash where she led the team to a U14 Canadian National Championship and U14 Ontario Cup title in 2006, scored the championship-winning goal in the U15 Ontario Cup in 2007. In 2008, she led the North London Flash to the U16 Ontario Cup finals. Campbell helped Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School win the 2011 Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association's soccer tournament gold medal.
Meyer was was a four-year captain of the Dallas Texans 94 Red. She helped the team to become Premier League Champions four years in a row (2007-10). In 2009 they were the Southern Regional Champions and National Championship finalists. She started on her high schools team all four years and was team captain her junior and senior years. She received first team all-district honors her freshman, sophomore and junior years, and was named the District Co-Utility Player of the Year in 2010. She was named Coppell High School's Outstanding Female Athlete in 2010 and also played basketball and was a regional qualifier in High Jump in 2010 and 2011.
Schmalz plays for Sockers FC Chicago and Schaumburg High School. Her club team was the 2009 Disney Showcase Champions and the 2010 and 2011 State Champions. They also qualified for the 2011National Championship Tournament. At Schaumburg, she was a four-year starter and a three-time All-Conference player. She was also named to the All-Area squad during her junior and senior years. Her team was the 2011 Regional Champions and played in the Sectional Final. Schmalz has also been active in the Olympic Development Program as a member of the ODP Illinois State Team and earned status as a ODP Region II Pool Player.
Shimmick has played with Meyer on the Dallas Texans 94 Red since 2004. She also played on the ODP 93 NTX State Team from 2006-2010. Shimmick participated in the ODP 93 Regional Camp in 2007 and the ODP National Camp in Philadelphia in 2010. She helped the team to a Nike Cup Championship and Gothia Cup Championship in 2008, and was named the MVP of the Gothia Cup in 2008. She also played on the ODP Region III Team from 2011-11, and participated in the ODP Region Invitational in 2009 and 2010. She accompanies the Region II ODP on their Trip to Portugal and Costa Rica. She helped her team to the 2009 USYS National Championship Finals. In high school, she was named to the first team all-district in 2009-2011. She was the District 5-5A Freshman of the Year.
Shutter has spent the last two seasons as a starter for the Lonestars ECNL U18 squad and a three-year varsity starter at James Bowie High School in Austin. Shutter earned all-district honors as a junior She paced Bowie to district titles as a sophomore and junior led the team to a third-place finish at the UIL State Championship. In 2010 she was the leading scorer for the USYSNC State Champions Austin United Caps Premier 94. Shutter earned academic all-district for three seasons.
Smith has been a member of the as Dallas Texans 94 Red Soccer Club with Meyer and Shimmick since 2005 and plays for Plano West High School. She plays for the US Soccer Women's National Team U20 National Team where this spring she will take part in CONCACAF Qualifying and participated in the 2012 U20 World Cup Summer Camp in January. She also made appearances at the 2011 U18 National Team Camp, 2011 U20 Camp, 2011 U20 team trip to Spain and the U17 Dallas Cup game (USA vs. Brazil). Smith participated in the National Team Camps from 2008-2010. She is a four-year captain for her club team and participated in the Olympic Development Program from 2005-2010. She was named the 2010 Area Goalkeeper of the Year and the 2009 Area Newcomer of the Year. She is a two-time NSCAA Youth All-American and 2010 Parade Magazine All-American. She was named the 2009 USYS ODP National Championship Golden Glove.
