Why did you choose to play for the University of Texas?
I thought the University of Texas offered a lot of things I liked. I know they have some of the nicest facilities, the best coaches and the best players around. The tradition of Texas Football is like no other.
What are you looking forward to the most about playing for co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Bryan Harsin?
Ever since he started recruiting me, we have built a great relationship. He is a great guy, and obviously he knows a lot about X's and O's. He is a great football coach, a great quarterback's coach and a great offensive coordinator. I am excited to get under him and start learning and having him start helping me become a better quarterback.
What are your impressions of head coach Mack Brown?
He is a genuine guy. He is one of the nicest guys I've met and a great football coach. Obviously, he has won a national championship and coached in big BCS games. He has done some great things in the past couple of years; hired some great guys. I know he wants to win it real bad, and I think we are on the track to get back to where we used to be and in the BCS caliber of games.
One of the things Coach Brown stresses is family. Do you feel that here?
I definitely felt that when I came here. Family is important to him. He wants not only the kids to feel like they are one big family now at Texas, but he wants our families to feel safe. My parents are allowing me to come here, and he is kind of my parent now, because I am under him. It is just one big family here, and it is definitely a great place to be.
Why did you decide to enroll early?
There are a definitely a lot of factors. The coaches wanted me to catch up on the playbook. Just being a quarterback, I think it's a good deal to get down here and start learning the playbook and start getting used to everything before everyone is thrown in at one time. Coming in early gives me an edge on things, and I think it is going to be beneficial in the long run.
Do you feel like you are ready for college with it being such a change from high school?
I do. It is definitely a change from high school. Obviously I miss high school, but I am on to the next chapter of my life. It is something I had to do and something that was best for me. That's why I had to do it.
Does coming here early help you get a grip on school before the football season rolls around?
Yes. College is a lot different than high school. The classes, the system and the busy schedule that we are getting used to, it definitely puts an emphasis on school right now. I'm learning the playbook and learning the system. It is coming all at once, so I am just trying to get everything down to a "T."
Do you feel like it is easier for you to make this transition with your sister [sophomore swimmer Ashley Brewer] currently enrolled here?
Yes. She definitely helps me out whether it's hanging out with her or her telling me how to get places. It definitely helps me out with family being here. It was a big perk in me coming here to Texas.
How excited are you to be here now playing football at Texas?
Getting here is one of the most exciting things, and right now it is the biggest thing in my life that has happened to me. I'm just getting used to it, and I'm excited to start playing football.
