COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Texas Women's Swimming & Diving team is in second place heading into the final day of the Big 12 Championships in Columbia, Mo.
"We are just trying to keep gaining momentum and I think we will have a good day tomorrow," said sophomore Lily Moldenhauer.
Moldenhauer had a good day for the Longhorns as they currently have 569 points.
"The morning swims were a little off but I was able to come back with two of my favorite races," said Moldenhauer. "I went faster in the medley than I did in the prelims so I gained confidence going into my individual events."
The 400 medley relay team took second place with Lily Moldenhauer, Laura Sogar, Ellen Lobb and Karlee Bispo combining for a time of 3:33.86 which was just shy of the NCAA A qualifying mark.
Three Longhorns were in the top five of the 100 butterfly. Lily Moldenhauer led the way with a 53.71 for third while Ellen Lobb was right behind with a 53.86 and Kelsey Amundsen had a 54.07 for fifth.
Moldenhauer also finished second in the 100 backstroke as she was the only Texas swimmer in the A finals.
"The heat was packed with other swimmers so I wanted to get some points for our team," Moldenhauer said. "I was in lane eight so I felt like I had an advantage to sneak up on the other swimmers."
Karlee Bispo and Samantha Tucker led UT in the 200 freestyle. Bispo clocked a 1:44.33 for second place and has now finished first or second in the event in every race this season. Tucker took third in the event with a time of 1:47.15.
UT also claimed the No. 2 and 3 places in the 100 breaststroke. Laura Sogar swam her fastest time of the season with a 1:00.31 as did Gretchen Jaques with her 1:00.70.
In the 400 IM, the third and fourth spots went to Longhorns with freshman Kaitlin Pawlowicz swimming a 4:14.67 and Skylar Smith a 4:15.36. Kelsey LeNeave also came in sixth in the event.
Texas had two divers in the 3-meter competition. Shelby Cullinan took fourth place with a score of 335.75 while Diana Wilcox ended up seventh with 311.75 points.
Saturday will be the final day of the meet and will start at 10 a.m. with the finals at 6 p.m. The events schedule to take place are the platform diving, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 1650 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and 400 freestyle relay.
