Lexy Bennett selected No. 3 overall in 2012 NPF Draft

AUSTIN, Texas - Texas Softball senior second baseman Lexy Bennett (Kingwood, Texas/Second Baptist) was drafted as the No. 3 overall pick in today's National Pro Fastpitch league college draft by the Akron Racers. Bennett becomes the eighth player in Texas Softball history to be selected by the NPF.
Bennett is currently batting .528 for the Longhorns with five home runs, 32 RBI and six stolen bases. She leads the Big 12 Conference in batting average and RBI. As of tonight, in 182 games, Bennett has a .387 career batting average with 36 doubles, 28 home runs and 130 RBI. She has a .646 career slugging percentage and .465 on-base percentage. She currently holds the Texas career records for batting average and on-base percentage. She needs nine RBI to tie the school record for RBI and is only the fifth player in school history to record 200 or more hits in her career.
She was named to the 2012 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year watch list after racking up several big awards in 2011. She garnered 2011 All-Big 12 Second Team honors, 2011 NFCA All-Central Region Second Team honors and finished the season as a top 25 finalist for the 2011 USA Softball Collegiate POY honors.
