LAWRENCE, Kan. -- The Texas Women's Golf team fired a field-best 8-over-par 288 in Sunday's final round of the Big 12 Championship to improve from sixth place after 36 holes to a second-place finish overall. Senior Nicole Vandermade and freshman Bertine Strauss led the Longhorns with top-10 individual finishes to earn All-Big 12 Team honors.
Junior Haley Stephens paced UT at Lawrence Country Club through two lengthy weather delays on Sunday with an even-par 70 to mark her best round of the championship. Stephens offset bogeys on 10 and 15 with birdies on five and 14. She finished in 13th place at 18-over 228 (84-74-70).
Vandermade - one of just two players to card a below-par round 69 throughout the 54-hole championship - finished the day at 4-over for a final score of 14-over 224 (81-69-74).
Strauss (77-78-71=226, +16) saved the best round of her Big 12 Championship debut for Sunday with a 1-over 71, as did juniors Desiree Dubreuil (83-77-73=233) and Katelyn Sepmoree (88-79-78=245). Dubreuil and Sepmoree rounded out the Texas squad in ties for 23rd and 44th places.
Oklahoma (316-292-296=904) maintained it's 36-hole lead to win by seven strokes. Baylor (313-302-297) finished in third place at 72-over 912.
Texas played the conference tournament without 2011 Big 12 Championship medalist Madison Pressel who is out for the remainder of the season due to a right-shoulder injury.
The Longhorns will now await Monday's announcement of the NCAA Championship Regional selections at 8 p.m. Central on NCAA.com. This year's regional sites include Penn State (State College, Pa.), Ohio State (Columbus, Ohio) and Colorado (Erie, Colo.).
