FRANKLIN, Tenn. -- The Texas Women's Golf team saved its best for the final round of the 2012 NCAA Championship when it fired a 2-under-par 286 at Legends Golf Club to finish tied for 13th place at 39-over 1191 (297-295-313-286). The Longhorns entered Friday's fourth round in 20th place, but climbed seven places on the final leaderboard with a pair of under-par rounds by senior Nicole Vandermade (71) and junior Desiree Dubreuil (70).
Like Texas, Dubreuil went out with her best round of the competition at 2-under 70. She played her first eight holes at even before carding back-to-back birdies on nine and 10. As many bogeys on the next two holes pushed her scorecard back to even, but Dubreuil found two final birdie opportunities on the 14th and 15th holes and made three more pars to finish at -2. Dubreuil (81-75-81-70=307, +19) finished tied for 93rd on the individual leaderboard.
Vandermade (76-72-78-71) and freshman Bertine Strauss (74-76-74-72) also carded tournament-bests Friday morning. Strauss' even-par 72 gave her a 72-hole total of 8-over 296 for a team-best tie for 33rd place. Vandermade finished one stroke back to tie for 38th place in her final collegiate event.
Juniors Katelyn Sepmoree (71-76-80-76=303, +15) and Haley Stephens (76-72-83-73=304) rounded out the Texas squad in ties for 71st and 77th places, respectively.
Alabama (286-285-306-294) captured the team championship at 19-over 1171, besting Southern Cal (297-288-294-293) by one stroke. The Tide clinched the title when Brooke Pancake made a five-foot putt to save par on 18.
Oklahoma's Chirpat Jao-Javanil took the individual title at 6-under (69-73-70-70=282). Pancake placed second with a 2-under 286 (68-70-75-73).

Texas Head Coach Martha Richards
On Texas' final round: This was the most focus we've seen this week and they all appeared more relaxed. They had some fun out there, and it was a great way to go out. The golf course set itself up for a great round today, but we also left yesterday with a bad taste in our mouths. They really wanted to have a good round on this course, and they knew they were capable of more. We only had about five or six bad holes yesterday, and unfortunately, those added up.
On senior Nicole Vandermade's collegiate career: Nicole means the world to our program. She was the first one to believe in Texas, in myself and in (former assistant coach) Tracy. She helped start the process of rebuilding. She has played an integral role of recruiting almost everyone on this team, including Bertine. She was the team hostess for just about everyone. You can't say enough about how she's been as a teammate, both to the coaching staff and the players. Nicole has been a super Longhorn. She's progressed every year, and it's been fun to watch. You can't have too many Nicole's.
Senior Nicole Vandermade
On her collegiate career: I'm really happy that I ended on a good note by shooting under par in my last round. It feels great to be a part of this team. I've seen (Texas) grow from my time as a freshman, and we've grown so much. I'm excited to see where the program continues to go because the future is so bright. It's time for me to begin a different chapter, but I'll always love Texas.
Freshman Bertine Strauss
On her first NCAA Championship appearance: It was really exciting. I've enjoyed the last four days, and I'm already looking forward to next year. We'll want to go farther up the leaderboard, and it's a goal we'll work on all year. Weeks like this are why we choose to come to Texas.
