FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - Junior Maren Taylor continued her comeback at the Olympic Diving Team Trials as she competed in her first individual event since March, 2011.
Taylor reached the finals of the 3-meter synchronized springboard on Sunday and came back today for the 3-meter individual springboard. She got off to a bad start, missing on her first dive and registering a low score just 15.40.
"Maren started with a front 3 1/2 and had a nightmare hurdle, but she hit all of her next four dives great," said Texas diving coach Matt Scoggin. "The good news is that her back is healthy and she still has her synchro final on Thursday."
The final four dives were all really solid for Taylor, netting scores of 58 points or better. Had it not been for a bad first dive she likely would have advanced to the semifinals. Her top dive of the day was a back 2 1/2 somersault pike that gave her a score of 63.00.
Taylor will dive with UT signee Meghan Houston in the finals of the 3-meter synchronized springboard on Thursday at 7 p.m. PT.
