Tunningley leads No. 6 Horns at Greater Louisville Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Senior Rory Tunningley finished with an 8K personal record to pace an abbreviated squad for No. 6 Texas on Saturday morning at the 11th Annual Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park.
Tunningley clocked in at 24:05.32 for an 11th-place finish. His previous 8K personal record was set at the 2011 Big 12 Championships with a time of 24:23.2.
As a team, Texas placed fifth among the field of 31 teams without running two of its top runners - Ryan Dohner and Kyle Merber. No. 8 Iona finished first as a team, while Arizona sophomore Lawi Lalang took home the individual title with a time of 22:33.57.
Six of the seven harriers representing Texas ran for the first time of the season on Saturday. Sophomore Craig Lutz finished 22nd overall and second among Longhorns with a time of 24:16.37. It is the first time of his collegiate career that Lutz has not led his team in a race.
Senior Patrick McGregor ran a personal-record 24:19.69 for a 25th-place finish. Senior transfer Trevor Van Ackeren finished 49th with a time of 24:42. 96. In his first cross country race since the 2009 season, Austin Roth improved his 8K personal-record 24:51.12 in 64th place. Sophomore transfer Blake Williams debuted as a Horn with an 85th-place finished with a time of 25:07.27. Freshman Brady Turnbull clocked in at 25:17.53 in 99th place.
The Greater Louisville Classic was run on the same course - E.P. Tom Sawyer Park - as the NCAA Championships, which will be held on Nov. 17.
Texas returns to action in two weeks for the Wisconsin adidas Invitational on Friday, Oct. 12.
