COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - USA Swimming has announced the selections of former Longhorns Jimmy Feigen, Ricky Berens, Michael Klueh and Brendan Hansen along with UT senior Austin Surhoff to the 2012-13 USA Swimming National Team.
Athletes who posted the top-six fastest times from the combined results of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials, the London Olympics and the 2012 U.S. Open earned selections to the team.
Feigen won a silver medal in the 4x100-meter freestyle relay at the London Olympics after competing in the event's preliminary round alongside Berens.
The San Antonio native capped his collegiate career last spring with NCAA titles in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle and 400-yard freestyle relay.
Feigen earned his place on the 2012-13 National Team by clocking 21.89 in the 50m freestyle and 48.48 in the 100m freestyle at the U.S. Olympic Trials.
Berens joined Conor Dwyer, Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps to win gold in the 4x200m freestyle relay at the London Olympics after completing the same feat at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Berens, who co-owns the 4x200m freestyle relay world record alongside Texas-Ex Dave Walters, earned his place on the 2012-13 National Team with his times of 48.80 in the 100m freestyle and 1:46.56 in the 200m freestyle from the U.S. Olympic Trials.
Klueh fell just shy of qualifying for the London Olympics after taking third in the 400m freestyle at the U.S. Olympic Trials. However, his time of 3:48.17 in the event was sufficient to earn a spot on the 2012-13 USA Swimming National Team.
Hansen won gold in the 4x100m medley relay and bronze in the 100m breaststroke at the London Olympics. Hansen earns his 2012-13 National Team berth with his 100m breaststroke time of 59.49 recorded in London and his 200m breaststroke time of 2:10.25 at the U.S. Olympic Trials.
Surhoff earned his place on the 2012-13 National Team by clocking 1:59.58 in the 200m individual medley at the U.S. Olympic Trials. Surhoff will join UT classmates Michael McBroom and Jacob Ritter to compete for the United States next summer at the World University Games.
