Longhorns defeated No. 12/10 Oklahoma, 36-20, on Saturday
DALLAS – The Texas Longhorns have been named the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl National Team of the Week for their 36-20 victory over No. 12/10 Oklahoma on Saturday, as chosen by the board of the Football Writers Association of America.
With the win, the Longhorns maintained their undefeated Big 12 record and remain tied for first place in the conference. Texas did not trail in the game and held a double-digit lead for most of the matchup.
Senior quarterback Case McCoy threw for 190 yards and two touchdowns as Texas ended its three-year losing streak against Oklahoma. For the first time in the series, two Texas running backs each had over 100 rushing yards as Malcolm Brown and Johanthan Gray combined for 243 yards on the ground.
Four different Longhorns scored, including touchdown receptions by Mike Davis and Marcus Johnson. Texas also had its first two non-offensive scores of the season. A pick six by Chris Whaley gave Texas the lead in the first quarter and Daje Johnson had an 85-yard punt return for a touchdown in the third.
The Longhorn defense held the Sooners to just 263 total yards on offense, their lowest output in the series since 2005. Oklahoma converted on just 2-of-13 on third down attempts, while Texas finished 13-of-20.
The other nominees for the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl National Team of the Week were Missouri and Utah. The Tigers remain undefeated as they took down Georgia, 41-26, in Athens. Utah upset No. 5 Stanford, 27-21, to snap the Cardinal's 13-game winning streak. This was the Utes' first win over a top five-program at home in school history.
The last time Texas received this honor was in 2008 after defeating top-ranked Oklahoma, 45-35. Members of the FWAA All-America Committee determine the weekly honor and it is announced every Monday.
