Daje Johnson named National Punt Returner of the Week.
Texas wide receiver/running back Daje Johnson, defensive tackle Chris Whaley and place-kicker/punter Anthony Fera were honored Monday by the College Football Performance Awards for their play in the Longhorns' 36-20 win over then No. 12/10 Oklahoma.
Johnson was named National Punt Returner of the Week, while Whaley earned Honorable Mention Defensive Lineman of the Week and Fera earned Honorable Mention Place-kicker of the Week.
After taking over No. 1 punt return duties for the game, Johnson returned his first career punt 85 yards for a touchdown. It marked Texas' longest punt return for a touchdown since 2005, when Aaron Ross had an 88-yarder.
Whaley provided one of the most important plays in the game when he dropped back on a zone blitz on a third-and-4 play and intercepted a pass from Sooners quarterback Blake Bell, then returned it 31 yards for a touchdown. Whaley also had four tackles and was part of a defensive effort that limited Oklahoma to 263 yards of total offense, including just 130 on the ground.
Fera was perfect on three field goal attempts, including a career-long 50-yarder. The senior widened Texas' lead to 23-10 as time expired in the first half with a 43-yarder. On the year, Fera is 8-of-9 on field goals.
This is the fourth time Fera has been honored this season by CFPA and first time for Whaley and Johnson.
