ST. THOMAS, Virgin Islands – Texas Women's Basketball concluded play in the U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam with a 29-point victory over Memphis, 65-36, on Saturday night.
Freshman Kelsey Lang, who made her first two career starts in the Paradise Jam this week, led the Longhorns with a season-high 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting in 23 minutes.
After Memphis (3-5) made the first basket of the game, Texas (5-2) went on a 14-0 run and never trailed for the remainder of the game. Texas took a 28-10 lead into halftime while denying the Tigers a field goal in the last 12:36 of the half.
Memphis' 10-point first half ties for the fourth-lowest point total in a half by a Texas opponent in program history. The Longhorns held the Tigers to 12.5 percent shooting (3-24 FG) in the first half.
Texas put the pedal to the medal in the second half by shooting 66.7 percent (14-21 FG) to set a season high for shooting percentage in a half. Lang scored eight of her 12 points in the second half on 4-of-4 shooting.
Sophomore Brady Sanders notched two more 3-point field goals on Saturday and finished with eight points. In the three games during the Paradise Jam, Sanders shot 9-of-16 from beyond the arc.
Sophomore Empress Davenport finished with double-figures in scoring for the second time this season with 10 points on 3-of-5 shooting in 31 minutes.
The Longhorns held the Tigers to 25 percent shooting on the night with a 32-to-10 scoring advantage in the paint and a 41-to-25 rebounding advantage. Saturday marked the 45th time in program history that Texas has held an opponent to 40 points or less.
Memphis' Ariel Hearn scored 21 of her team's 36 points behind five 3-point field goals.
Texas returns home on Wednesday, Dec. 4th to face Arkansas Little-Rock Trojans at the Frank Erwin Center at 7 p.m. Central.
