No. 4 Men's Track & Field wins a pair of events on day two of Texas Relays

The No. 4-ranked Men's Track and Field team closed the second day of the 86th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays by taking the top five spots in the 10,000 meters on Thursday night.
Ryan Dohner earned the top spot with a time of 29:34.34, the top time in the nation this season. Craig Lutz followed with a career-best time of 29:39.22 (No. 2 in the nation). Daniel Vertiz ran the event in 29:55.62, while Rory Tunningley placed fourth with a time of 30:07.35 and Mark Pinales (30:08.09) finished fifth. Additionally, Collin Smith finished with a time of 31:14.25 for 10th place.
The quartet of Kyle Merber, Trevor Van Ackeren, Kyle Thompson and Patrick McGregor won the 4X800-meter relay with a time of 7:29.51. Van Ackeren caught and passed the Texas A&M team on the second leg, and the Longhorns did not relinquish the lead. It marked the 10th all-time win by the Longhorns in the event, the most in Relays history.
In the decathlon, senior Isaac Murphy finished third with 7,758 points, the 11th-best performance in school history. Curtis Beach of Duke won the event with a tally of 8,011. Romain Martin of UT-Arlington was second (7,904). Dakota Keys of Oregon was fourth (7,743) and Marcus Nilsson of UCLA fifth (7,612).
Those are the top five marks in the nation this season. The best 24 marks advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Fellow Longhorn Jake Wohlford finished 14th with 6,868 points, in his first completed decathlon since the 2011 season.
Austin Bussing, a senior transfer from Kansas, set a new personal best in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 8:52.05 to finish second. That mark is the third best in the country this season. UT finished with three runners in the top 10 of the steeplechase. Austin Roth earned fifth place with a time of 8:56.49, and John McNamara ran a time of 9:03.06 for eighth place.
Earlier in the day, freshman Johannes Hock finished fourth in the section B javelin. He only had one attempt, which traveled 204-6 (62.34m). John Trucilla finished 12th with a toss of 181-7 (55.35m).
In the hammer throw, Hayden Baillio finished 12th in a personal-best 175-8 (53.54m) and Clint Harris was 13th (171-5/52.24m).
David Anamosa finished the 800 meters in a1:53.64 for eighth place and while Blake Williams placed seventh in the 1,500 in a time of 3:55.85.
In the first decathlon event of day two, the 110m hurdles, Wohlford finished second (14.40) and earned 924 points. Murphy was close behind in fourth (14.58), collecting 901 points.
Murphy earned 776 points to briefly take over second place overall with a second-place finish in the discus (149-2/45.46).
Murphy finished seventh in the pole vault with a jump of 15-9 (4.80m) and earned 849 points. Wohlford finished 20th and earned 562 points (12-5/3.80m).
Murphy and Wohlford posted 11th and 12th-place finishes, respectively, in the javelin. Murphy threw a distance of 163-0 (49.69m) and picked up 584 points. Wohlford threw 162-01/49.40m for 580 events.
In the final decathlon event, the 1,500m run, Murphy finished sixth at 4:41.62 (670 points), and Wohlford finished 13th at 4:48.60 (627 points).
Josh Brudnick and Zachary Wieland ran in the prelims of the 400-meter hurdles, but did not advance to Friday night's finals.
Friday's events get underway at 9:30 a.m. with prelims in the 4x100-meter relay, hurdles, 100 meters and 4x400 relay.
