Women's Tennis defeats Kansas, 6-1

LAWRENCE, Kan. - No. 29 Texas (12-9, 5-1 Big 12) claimed a hard-fought doubles point and notched five singles wins in a 6-1 victory over Kansas (8-9, 0-6 Big 12) Friday at the Jayhawk Tennis Center.
Texas held off a scrappy Kansas effort in the doubles session to claim the doubles point. The Longhorns' Breaunna Addison and Noel Scott defeated KU's Belen Luduena and Paulina Los by an 8-3 count at first doubles.
The Jayhawks were victorious at third doubles, and KU's Maria Jose Cardona and Dylan Windom held a 7-5 lead over UT's Elizabeth Begley and Aeriel Ellis at second doubles. But, the Texas tandem evened the set held serve and broke the Jayhawks to even the match and ultimately force a tiebreaker. Texas took the tiebreaker, 7-4 to win the match and clinch the doubles point.
UT's Scott pushed the Texas lead to 2-0 behind a 6-1, 6-0 win over Windom at fourth singles. Begley extended the cushion to 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-4 win at third singles. Addison clinched the Texas victory with a 6-4, 7-5 win over KU's Luduena at first singles.
Ellis staked the Horns to a 5-0 lead with her 7-6, 6-2 win over Cardona at second singles. Texas' final point came from sophomore Annat Rabinovich, who produced a 7-5, 6-2 win over Victoria Khanevskaya at sixth singles.
Texas concludes its weekend road swing on Saturday at Kansas State. First serve is set for 1 p.m. CT.
