NEW ORLEANS - Ryan Crouser and Johannes Hock were named to the final regular-season watch list for The Bowerman, an award presented annually by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) to both the most outstanding male and female collegiate athletes in the nation.
Crouser, who leads the nation in the shot put, and Hock, who has the top decathlon mark, are among 10 athletes on the men's list that was released Wednesday. The Longhorns are the only school with more than one representative.
Crouser and Hock are coming off career performances at the three-day Big 12 Outdoor Championships.
Crouser increased his nation's best mark by posting a school and meet record toss of 69-2 1/2 (21.09m) on Sunday, May 5. That mark is more than five feet longer than Cole Weldon of Texas Tech who has the second-best mark in the nation at 63-9 (19.43m).
The first two days of the league meet belonged to Hock who won the decathlon in record-setting fashion.
He led from start to finish in registering a meet-record 8,293 points, which not only leads the nation, but also ranks No. 2 on the 2013 world performance list. That mark is also seventh on the all-time collegiate list.
Hock was voted the 2013 Big 12 Outdoor Outstanding Male Freshman of the Year.
The Bowerman, which debuted in 2009, is named for legendary Oregon track & field and cross country coach Bill Bowerman.
The Longhorns are back in action next week when they serve as host to the NCAA Division I West Preliminary Round (May 23-25).
