EUGENE, Ore. - The Texas Women's Track & Field team closed out the 2013 edition of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a pair of top-five finishes on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Hayward Field.
Morgan Snow posted the first of the two top-fives on the day in personal-best fashion, finishing fourth in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 12.88 seconds. The sophomore, who earned her first individual All-America honors in the 60-meter hurdles at the 2013 NCAA indoor meet, is the first Longhorn to score in the event at NCAA Outdoors since Melaine Walker placed third in 2006.
"Today I showed up and I raced," Snow said. "I was all the way in lane one and I'm running for my life because I can't really see the girls in the other lanes, so I just ran and dove at the line. I peaked at the right time and running a 12.88 is amazing. (At Hayward Field) the atmosphere is really big. The crowd is pumping you up, they are shouting for everyone, and it's just a great environment to compete in.
The Longhorn team of Courtney Okolo, Briana Nelson, Danielle Dowie and Kendra Chambers then closed out the meet by notching third in the 4x400m relay in 3:27.98. As was the case at the NCAA Indoor Championships, where Texas also finished third, the race came down to the last 100 meters. UT crossed just .39 seconds out of second place and .89 out of first.
Texas has now recorded All-America performances in the mile relay by finishing in the top eight at the national outdoor meet in four of the last five years. Today's race marked UT's highest finish in the event since the team of Judy Nwosu, Angele Cooper, Alex Anderson and Chantel Malone won the 2009 outdoor title.
The Longhorns also earned a team point in the 4x100m relay, where the squad of Snow, senior Chalonda Goodman, Nelson and sophomore Chamique Francis posted an eighth-place result in 45.08. Francis ran in place of Dowie, who suffered a slight hamstring strain Thursday in the 4x400 prelims and was scheduled to race in three event finals.
Rounding out the day for Texas was Shanay Briscoe, who competed in her third NCAA Outdoor final in as many years. Briscoe finished just shy of All-America position, tying for ninth with a leap of 5 feet, 10 ¾ inches (1.80m).
Texas finished 15th in the team standings with 18 points. Kansas won the meet with 60 points, while Texas A&M finished second (44) and Oregon third (43).
