Final - Cameron Norrie (TCU) def. #5 Søren Hess-Olesen (Texas) 6-4, 0-6, 6-3
COLLEGE STATION, Texas. -- Senior Søren Hess-Olesen was edged by TCU's Cameron Norrie in the final of the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championship at the Mitchell Tennis Center on Tuesday.
Norrie, who is No. 3 in the ITA's Preseason Newcomer/Freshman Rankings, captured the first set 6-4 before fifth-ranked Hess-Olesen won the next eight consecutive games, including a 6-0 second-set win. Norrie clinched the match with a 6-3 third-set victory.
"It was a very well-played match," head coach Michael Center said. "I give Cameron Norrie a lot of credit. He has a well-rounded game. Søren played well enough to win today and had a great tournament this week. I've been proud of his efforts this fall and I anticipate him being one of the players to beat at National Indoors in November, pending a Wild Card draw."
Hess-Olesen will await a Wild Card bid to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championship in New York from Nov. 6-9. The national tournament, hosted by Columbia University, serves as the culmination of the fall collegiate tennis season.
