Texas Head Coach Charlie Strong
On feelings toward the game: "I like the way our guys went out and competed but you still cannot give away opportunities. We gave them too many opportunities. We got the ball, then drove down in the first half, and get sacked-out of field goal range, which would have given us some points. Defensively, we had to get off the field on third down and get them backed up. Then [we gave them a] big third down and then two third downs. We have got to figure out what we have to put together to play the game. One week it is the offense, one week it is the defense, and one week it is the special teams. All three phases have to play well and that is the only way we are going to win games. We had our chances and we just did not take advantage of them."
On Tyrone Swoopes: "Last week he made those throws and made a lot of plays. We would have liked to see that today since it was there for him. He just did not make them into plays when we had the chances to get it done."
On scoreless game: "You do not ever want to be shutout. You want to go get some points and score some points. We thought we had a game plan. Just go back to see the game plan. You look at it and every fourth-and-one we could get it down there and go get the first down to set us up for an opportunity to go in there and get the score. That would make it a 16-7 game, and that is a different ball game."
Sophomore Quarterback Tyrone Swoopes
On team shutout: "We did not execute. We had the chance for some good plays but did not execute on offense enough to score. It is real frustrating because once we get that offensive confidence, we get into a rhythm."
On the offense taking a step back: I do not think we did. We have been getting better. [We] just did not make the plays we needed to in order to get better. I think we stayed the same and just need to focus on getting better for next week."
On being a team leader:It was real frustrating that we were not able to get anything going. I do not put the fault on myself or any of my teammates, just our offense as a whole. We did not execute, but we need to just get ready for next week so we can focus on getting to a bowl game."
On K-State's defense: "They did not do anything we did not expect. We practiced against it all week. We just were not able to execute any plays today to have a strong drive. They are a good team, but we did not make the plays we needed to."
Senior Wide Receiver John Harris
On team shutout: "I just do not feel like we played the way we have been playing the past few weeks, and it is just frustrating that we could not get anything going. I do not really have an answer. We just did not make good plays."
On being in K-State territory seven times: "We just did not capitalize. Maybe we did not get some calls that might have changed things, but at the end of the day we did not make the plays we needed to. We got down there and just let ourselves down."
On Coach Strong's message after the game: "He told us that we need to try and make it to a bowl game. We need go out and get a win next week and practice hard, so we can get to a bowl game."
Senior Linebacker Jordan Hicks
On the defense hanging in for most of the game: "I think we battled. We were able to keep them out of the end zone for a little while, for the most part. There were quite a few drives where they were able to get some runs. There is a lot of stuff we need to correct. We have to make plays when they come to us, and I think we did that."
On defense thinking they needed a turnover to score: "We always believe that we have to get a turnover, especially if they get a turnover. Their defense got a turnover, but we were not able to do that."
On where the team will go from here: "The team will fight. We are not going to quit, yet. The team will fight and put in the work. We have to focus on the next game."
On the performance of K-State's quarterback Jake Waters:
"There were times we had to get in his face. He is a very good player. He was able to get out of the pocket and make some plays down the field off his legs. We just have to get back in line."
Senior Defensive End Cedric Reed
On the holds called in the game:
"I have seen a lot of holding. That is common. It is tough with the guys we are going up against."
On holding K-State to field goals: "I think we did well. We held them to a couple field goals. For the most part, I think we put them out. It gave us a momentum boost. We tried to rally as well as we could, but they had a couple big plays. We kind of gave in."
On losing a game like this: "It is disappointing, and it hurts. It especially hurts the defense because we had a good game, as in the last few weeks. It definitely hurts."
