Longhorns win the doubles point and add four singles wins against the Cougars.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 26 Texas (4-6) won the doubles point and notched four singles victories in a 5-0 win over No. 30 Houston (7-2) Friday afternoon at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
Texas took a 1-0 lead after winning two of three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. UT pushed its lead to 2-0 behind a 6-1, 6-3 win from freshman Neda Koprcina over the Cougars' Maria Andrea Cardenas at fourth singles. Texas extended the lead to 3-0 on the strength of a 7-5, 6-2 win for Lana Groenvynck at sixth singles over Houston's Charlotte Phillips, 7-5, 6-2.
The Longhorns clinched the victory when they posted nearly simultaneous singles wins at the fifth and first singles positions. Junior Lina Padegimaite notched the clinching win with her 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 result over Houston's Tina Rupert at fifth singles.
UT's 24th-ranked Breaunna Addison finished off a 6-4, 7-6 (5) win over Houston's 125th-ranked Despoina Voqasari at first singles. The remaining two matches were called.
Texas hosts No. 6 USC on Sunday. First serve is set for noon CT at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
