Texas collects wins from Breaunna Addison, Neda Koprcina and Elizabeth Begley against its seventh top-10 opponent of the season.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 6 USC (9-2) edged No. 26 Texas (4-7) by a 4-3 count Sunday afternoon at UT's Edgar O. and Melanie A. Weller Tennis Center. Spanning over four hours, the match was relocated off campus to UT's indoor facility due to inclement weather.
Sunday's contest marked the Longhorns' seventh match of the season against a top-10 team. Texas has faced a top-30 opponent in 10 of its 11 matches this season.
USC swept the three doubles matches to win the doubles point and assume a 1-0 lead. Texas, however, evened the score right away in singles due to the retirement of USC's Sabrina Santamaria at first singles due to injury. Texas sophomore All-American Breaunna Addison picked up the win for the Longhorns.
The Trojans reclaimed the lead behind a 6-1, 6-3 win from Gabriella DeSimone over UT's Lina Padegimaite at fifth singles. Texas evened the tally at two when freshman Neda Koprcina finished off USC's 99th-ranked Giuliana Olmos by a 6-3, 6-2 margin at fourth singles.
Texas assumed its first lead of the match when senior Elizabeth Begley rallied for a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 win over USC's 118th-ranked Brynn Boren at second singles. USC's Kaitlyn Christian knotted the match at three with her 6-4, 7-5 win over UT's Lana Groenvynck at sixth singles.
The deciding match went in favor of USC's 50th-ranked Zoe Scandalis, who edged UT freshman Ratnika Batra at third singles, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-4.
Texas resumes dual-match play next weekend when it hosts No. 13 Michigan and No. 46 Yale.
