No. 5 UCLA edges No. 17 Women's Tennis, 4-2

Elizabeth Begley defeats the nation’s 24th-ranked player and Lina Padegimaite rallies to win in three sets.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Texas senior Elizabeth Begley and junior Lina Padegimaite rallied to win their singles matches, but No. 5 UCLA (6-0) emerged with a 4-2 win over No. 17 Texas (3-2) Friday in the opening round of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship.
The loss sends the Longhorns to the consolation draw where they will play two more matches. Texas' opponent and start time for Saturday's match will be announced later Friday evening. UT's only losses have come at the hands of No. 1 Stanford and the fifth-ranked Bruins.
The Bruins won at the second and first doubles positions to lock up the doubles point. UCLA's 13th-ranked tandem of Catherine Harrison and Kyle McPhillips led off with a 6-3 win over UT's Elizabeth Begley and Neda Koprcina at second doubles. UCLA clinched the doubles point at first doubles with a 6-4 win from its top-ranked Robin Anderson and Jennifer Brady over UT's Breaunna Addison and Pippa Horn.
Texas collected a pair of wins against a Bruins singles lineup that featured four of the nation's top-40 players, including the No. 1-ranked Anderson, who gave UCLA a 2-0 lead behind a 6-3, 6-1 win over UT's 22nd-ranked Addison at first singles. UT's Koprcina took the first set from UCLA's 36th-ranked Kyle McPhillips at fourth singles, but McPhillips claimed the next set and the ensuing third-set super-tiebreaker to extend the Bruins' lead to 3-0.
Padegimaite put the Horns on the board behind her 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6) win over UCLA's Kaitlin Ray at sixth singles. UT's Begley followed suit at third singles and rallied from one set down to win a match via a third-set super-tiebreaker. Begley upset UCLA's 24th-ranked Brady, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7) to slice the UCLA lead to 3-2.
UCLA, however, would clinch the team victory behind Harrison's 7-6, 6-3 win over UT's Horn at fifth singles. The remaining match at second singles was suspended.
