NOTES AT A GLANCE
• Texas and No. 11/9 Maryland meet for the fifth time on Tuesday in the second round of the NCAA Championship (6 p.m. Central, ESPN2). Maryland leads the all-time series, 3-1. It is the second NCAA Championship game between Maryland and Texas. Maryland defeated UT in the NCAA regional finals, 79-71, on March 25, 1989 in Austin.
• Texas defeated Penn in the first round on Sunday, 79-61. It marked UT's first win in the NCAA Championship since March 23, 2008. Texas shot a perfect 18-for-18 from the free throw line to set a new program record for free throws made in a game without a miss.
• UT is in its 27th overall appearance in the NCAA Championship and the first under second-year head coach Karen Aston. The Longhorns are tied for fourth in all-time NCAA Championship appearances with Louisiana Tech and Vanderbilt.
• The Longhorns hold an all-time record of 11-7 in the NCAA Championship round of 32. Texas has not won a game in the round of 32 (advanced to regionals) since 2004. The last round of 32 victory came as No. 1-seed Texas defeated No. 8-seed Michigan State on March 23, 2004 in Austin.
• Texas' 22 wins is a 10-win improvement from last season's 12-18 campaign. UT's turnaround is the second-best one-year win improvement in program history.
• 18 of UT's 33 games this season have been against 2014 NCAA Championship participants (9-9 record).
• Texas leads the Big 12 in field goal percentage defense ( program-record .345), rebounding defense (32.8 rpg allowed) and ranks 3rd in scoring defense (59.7 ppg allowed). The Longhorns rank 5th in the nation in rebound margin (+11.6).
• Texas leads the Big 12 in 3-point field goal percentage (.365, 179-491 3FG). Last season, Texas finished last in the Big 12 in 3-point field goal percentage (.278, 102-367 3FG).
• The Longhorns' 14.8 assists per game are the most since averaging 15.9 during the 1998-99 season.
• Junior forward Nneka Enemkpali leads Texas in rebounding (8.5 rpg) and scoring (12.1 ppg). Enemkpali earned All-Big 12 First Team honors this season.
• Sophomore center Imani McGee-Stafford is UT's second-leading scorer (10.9 ppg). Through three postseason games, the All-Big 12 Second Team selection is averaging 13.3 points and 8.3 rebounds.
• Senior guard Chassidy Fussell was named All-Big 12 Honorable Mention this season as UT's third-leading scorer (10.3 ppg). Fussell enters Tuesday with 1,704 career points, needing one point to enter the UT's top-10 career scoring list.
