Karcher records career-best second-place finish at Big 12 Women's Golf Championship

The Longhorns finished second in the team standings for a season-best performance.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas sophomore Natalie Karcher (71-69-71=211, -5) fired her third-straight subpar round in as many days during Sunday's final round of the Big 12 Women's Golf Championship to record a career-best second-place finish. As a team, the Longhorns (297-289-292=878, +14) finished second in the team standings to mark a season-best performance before beginning the NCAA Championship portion of the postseason.
With her first top-five career finish, Karcher earned a spot on the Big 12 All-Tournament Team that includes the top 10 finishers and ties.
Karcher had a rough start on the front nine of The University of Texas Golf Club with three bogeys and one birdie, but she turned it around with three birdies on holes 13, 15 and 17 to finish at 1-under 71 on the day.
Junior Bertine Strauss also recorded a final round team-best 71 that included three birdies and one double bogey. Strauss finished tied for 15th at 7-over 223 (79-73-71).
Freshman Julia Beck (75-74-74) also finished tied for 15th alongside Strauss, and freshman Lara Weinstein (75-73-76=224) and sophomore Tezira Abe (76-75-76=227) rounded out the Texas squad in ties for 19th and 26th places, respectively.
Oklahoma ran away with the title after a final round of 10-under 278 for an overall score of 3-under 861 (291-292-278). The Sooners' Chirapat Jao-Javanil edged Karcher and Yupaporn Kawinpakorn (69-73-69=211) of Kansas by two strokes.
Selections for the NCAA Regionals will be announced Monday, April 28 from 5-6 p.m. CT during Golf Central, Golf Channel's daily signature news show, with dedicated segments airing throughout.
