Former offensive lineman Trey Hopkins agreed to a free-agent contract with the Cincinnati Bengals after the 2014 NFL Draft, the team announced Monday.
Hopkins started his final three seasons and was a two-time All-Big 12 selection. He played in 50 games over his four seasons, starting 42 (28 at left guard/14 at right tackle).
A native of Galena Park, Texas, Hopkins earned first-team All-Big 12 honors (Associated Press, Sporting News, ESPN.com) in 2013 after starting all 13 games. He helped the offense rank 36th nationally in rushing (196.2 yards per game) and was a key factor in the opposition posting just 16 sacks (1.3 pg) which ranked tied for 17th fewest in the FBS.
One year earlier, he was a second team All-Big 12 choice (league's coaches, San Antonio Express-News, Dallas Morning News) when he helped Texas post the 23rd-best scoring offense in the nation (35.7 ppg) and rank 40th in total yards (434.6 pg), as well as allowing just 4.1 tackles for loss per game (No. 3 in the FBS) and 1.23 sacks (22nd in FBS).
His performance in 2012 helped him earn a spot of the preseason watch list of the 2013 Outland Trophy, which honors the top interior lineman in the nation.
