Senior wide receiver named to the preseason list for the second-straight season.
Senior Jaxon Shipley has been placed on the watch list for the 2014 Biletnikoff Award, which honors the top receiver in the nation, the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation announced Tuesday.
Heading into this season, Shipley ranks among the best wideouts in school history. He has posted at least 44 receptions in each of his first three years, including a team-best 56 in 2013 and career-high 59 in 2012.
Shipley has 159 career receptions which ranks seventh in school history and 1,933 career receiving yards, No. 8 on the UT books. The three-time honorable mention All-Big 12 choice has caught a pass in 35 of his 36 career games, including a stretch of 33 straight games (from the first game of his career until 2013 Texas Tech game), a streak which ranks third in school history.
The native of Brownwood, Texas, is making his second appearance on the preseason watch list for the Biletnikoff Award (also 2013).
He has also been solid in the classroom. Shipley was a 2013 second-team Academic All-Big 12 choice and is a four-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll.
No Longhorn has won the Biletnikoff, which has been in existence since 1994, but Shipley's brother, Jordan, was a finalist in 2009, his senior season. Jordan Shipley holds the school's career receptions record (248).
The Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation, Inc., which defines receiver as any player who catches a pass, will announce the 10 semifinalists on Nov.17, following the vote by the 221 members of the Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee. The three finalists will be declared on Nov. 24 and the winner announced on Dec. 11 during the Home Depot College Football Awards Show.
