No. 2 Volleyball showcases depth in Orange-White Scrimmage

AUSTIN, Texas — Sophomore Pilar Victoria recorded 19 kills and 20 digs, while senior Haley Eckerman posted 19 kills and 14 digs to pace No. 2 Texas Volleyball during the team's annual Orange-White scrimmage on Saturday afternoon inside Gregory Gymnasium. The day included a one-hour morning Kids Clinic which attracted nearly 175 area youth (8th grade and under), the Orange-White scrimmage and a post-game autograph session on the court.
The Orange team officially recorded a 26-28, 25-20, 25-21, 18-25, 15-7 win against the White team. All 15 roster players saw action and rotated between teams frequently throughout the five-game contest which lasted just over two hours.
Sophomore Chiaka Ogbogu registered 14 kills and 2.5 blocks, while senior Khat Bell (12 kills), junior Amy Neal (12 kills) and junior Molly McCage (11 kills, 3.0 blocks) also reached double figures in kills for the Longhorns. Sophomores Chloe Collins (50 assists, 18 digs) and Nicole Dalton (47 assists, 15 digs) rotated at the setter spot between the two teams, and freshmen Cat McCoy (17 digs) and Kate Palladino (11 digs) reached double figures in digs.
The Longhorns open the 2014 regular season with three games in a two-day span this coming weekend at the New Mexico Tournament in Albuquerque, N.M. Texas plays UTEP on Friday, Aug. 29 at 11:30 a.m. Central (10:30 am Mountain) and tourney host New Mexico later that same night at 8:30 p.m. Central (7:30 p.m. Mountain). The Horns conclude play in Albuquerque on Saturday, Aug. 30 against Seattle University at 4:30 p.m. Central (3:30 p.m. Mountain).
